Our generation is subjected to an abundance of information unparalleled by any previous period in history.  It is compiled online with no hierarchy or filter.  Advertisements, selfies, memes, and tragic news cycles are placed in the same context.  This greatly contributes to our cynical, nihilist, or anxious view of the modern world.

This series articulates the increasing complexity and uncertain future of humanity.  As the series progresses, the compositions are increasingly abstracted.  Humanity’s rapid and dizzying changes are conveyed as the scenes become less objective.  The spectral imagery suggests a feeling of ambiguity and stress with regards to the future.

In New York City, I observed and photographed congested compositions of crowds and cityscapes.  I made computer alterations to the photos to express the effect of new media and technology on our individual experiences.  Using a fluid matte medium, I transferred the photos onto panels as a starting point for developed oil paintings.
